It affects the central nervous system of the body, and is almost always fatal if people do not seek medical treatment immediately. One of the most terrifying things about rabies is that its incubation period is unpredictable. Sometimes you have symptoms within a few days, and other times it can take years before you know you have it. By then it's usually too late.
