We see the story in black and white. This may seem silly, but think about it. When I ask you to imagine Paris it a century ago, what do you see? A greyscale Eiffel Tower? A monochromatic Champs? Lys? Es? We visualize a world without color because it's the only picture ever presented to the eye of our mind.

And the effect often ends in a sense of distance. It is natural to compartmentalize the past and the present because they are seen as two totally different things. We've all seen what happens when historians restore the color to black and white photographs, but there is a series of pictures taken in Paris centenarians were actually developed in color. These color photographs - all of which were taken in 1914 by Léon Gimpel, Stephane Passet, Georges Chevalier, and Augustus Leon - will help you build a stronger bond with the past

These images, however, force us to consider the fact that we are not so different from these people at all. Life 100 years ago was certainly not lacking in vibrancy department.
