Angels have been represented in art for thousands of years. They are usually represented as a beautiful youthful ideals, full of glowing halos and powerful wings, or the adorable babies (conventionally known as putti ) with chubby cheeks and mischievous smiles.
Then there is the sculpture of angel created by Sun Yuan & Peng Yu artists, a duo from China. This description takes much more realistic - and disturbing - approach to the concept of angels.
The sculpture, created in a very realistic style, shows an elderly angel who seems to have fallen in flight.

the piece is a startling reminder of the fragility of all things, even things whose power we have taken for granted.

The installation also includes the net cage, which seems to be a kind of trap. The idea of an angel trapped adds another layer of meaning to the piece.

away, it seems that the angel trapped in a cage, yearns. Perhaps because she can not fulfill his angelic duties to help people in need.
Although the sculpture seems real, it is actually made of silica, fiberglass, steel, and mesh.

Sun Yuan and Pengu Yu have been known to use much more macabre materials including human tissue in their tracks, but it is entirely synthetic.
