Imagine a graffiti artist. We're talking about someone who takes pleasure in public places spray paint with all kinds of colors and images, covering the walls with bright designs simply because they feel like it.
Now keep imagining that person.
Do they look something like this?

These two women are LATA members of the organization 65, a panel designed for seniors who are looking to get in touch with the art of the street, a newer art form usually associated with younger generations. Not only older people get to experience a fun, new art form and spend time socializing outside, they also strengthen links with youth.
LATA (meaning "may," as in a spray paint can) 65 was developed in partnership with the wool Urban Arts Festival located in Covilha, Portugal.
The members meet for workshop style classes and practice what they learn.

as street art is becoming less associated with crime and more associated with the art world, it is increasingly used to beautify neighborhoods and as a community development activity. LATA 65 works to bring older people into the business and get more connected.
The students first meet to discuss the history and concepts of graffiti art, and watch examples of art from the street throughout the world. Then they take the field and unleash their creativity on the walls of the city.
