Women and girls feel more pressure than ever to have unreasonably perfect bodies. From a young age, girls are facing millions of conflicting messages about how they are supposed to look, which is clearly unhealthy on so many levels. Fortunately, some brands have committed to participate in campaigns of positive-body. We have a long way to go, but it's a start.
But what is strange about this contemporary pressure to be skinny is that physical ideal was totally different a few decades ago. It is obviously not acceptable to dictate how someone should look in all directions, but it is always interesting to see how body image issues have changed over the years. You'll see what I mean when you see these vintage ads.
1. Being thin was definitely not in the style back in the day.

2. At the time, people saw the extreme thinness as an obstacle.

3. It is absolutely crazy how the script returned to this question in the world of advertising.

4. Oh, and dudes? You are not immune. Take some weight!

5. The word "skinny" was considered an insult.

6. Well well, it is aggressive.

is not that weird? I wonder what triggered the change of this idealization incredibly thin body. More important than that, however, is that we all learn to understand that dictate how women "should" or "should not" look is never acceptable, no matter what type body happens to be in style this time. Just to you, ladies!
