Modern-day Norway is a beacon for Western civilization . Using a number of measures, it is easy to see how truly progressive Norway as a country. However, as every country on earth, Norway is not without its flaws or dark spots. It might come as a shock, but one of these dark spots was in the 0s, when the country was terrorized by Satanists.
In the late 1980s, the Norwegian death metal scene thriving began to turn darker.

The music became heavier. Many guitarists pioneer new ways of expressing the agreements which gave them a darker tone. The lyrical content of music called heavily Satanism. Thus, the black metal as a genre was born.
The event was said to have triggered the kind of black metal was the suicide of Per Yngve Ohlin.

Ohlin was the singer of a black metal band called Mayhem. In 1991, after battling depression, Ohlin shot himself in the room he shared with his cronies. Mayhem guitar player ,? ystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, found the body of Ohlin. Instead of calling the police right away, he took a picture of the scene and collected Ohlin skull pieces from all over the bathroom. Euronymous is said that these necklaces skull pieces and gave them to different people in the black metal scene.
After the death of Ohlin, Mayhem went on and used the death of their singer for advertising.

The scene began to grow in Norway and Sweden after. At the height of the movement, Euronymous opened a record store in downtown Oslo called Helvete, which translates as "hell." Helvete was where members of the black metal scene together. The founding members of high jokingly called themselves the "Black Circle".
So Helvete was a meeting place for fans of black metal, it soon began to draw police attention.

because of their decidedly anti-Christian ideology, fans of black metal began act against the Christian creation in Norway by burning down churches. The attacks first started in 1992. In 1996, at least 50 churches were targeted by fans of black metal.
But crimes do not stop there. Several murders were committed by fans of black metal during this same time.

In August 1992, the guitar player for black metal band Emperor stabbed a gay man to death in the forest outside the town of Lillehammer.
in 1993, the police began to look at the record shop Helvete. To avoid publicity, Euronymous closed the shop.

There were those who satisfied about Euronymous close the shop, which came back to haunt him. In August 1993 two black metal musicians led to the apartment of Euronymous. When they arrived, there was a fight and one of the musicians stabbed Euronymous to death. Police found his body with 23 stab wounds to the head, neck and chest.
While the black metal scene in Norway modern is still strong, it is not nearly as radical as it was in those early days. Yet it was perhaps just as violent, if not more violent, the hip-hop wars in the US during the same time. Yikes!
