According to a new study, rather than preventing the body reanimating like vampires, these sickles were there as a way to ward off evil spirits. those involved in the study cited so-called "anti-demonic" properties of iron. wrought iron by fire in this culture was known to symbolize the transition from life and death and life.
Although it is impossible for us to know exactly why these people were buried with sickles it is still a rampant practice rather rudely ... no matter how you look.
