Once a bustling city in Thessaly, Greece, Ropoto is now a ghost town. What happened to this place to make it so desolate? Well, in 2012, a landslide caused homes and buildings cascade over the side of a hill, the displacement of 300 families in the process.
The 12-minute documentary Ropoto: Sinking Ghost Town Greece details what happened the day of the collapse, reveals that the wreck continues to occur, and highlights the reluctance Greek government to help its own people.

Because of poor drainage, urban residents still relied on specialized machines to move water around. But when the machines are not doing their work in 2011, it led to a massive landslide that occurred on April 12, 2012.

When the mountain began to form cracks in the 60s, scientists have warned the Greek government that something like this would happen. Unfortunately, people have continued to build on the dangerous ground for profit.

Many people are still left homeless, and to date, the city has no electricity. Many residents remain in the stables with their pets. Since the last landslide, the city slipped between 10 and 15 centimeters down the hill, and Ropoto continues to flow every year.
