Every time I have to stay on a plane for hours and hours, I ask the gods that I made to make them hit me. Has it something to do with the exorbitant amount of money I spend on makeup? I tend to leave the laundry in piles six feet on the floor? Probably. Anyway, I felt anger steal the universe a few times since I caught the travel bug a few years ago. You probably also.

Fortunately, the Internet is here to counteract some of the suckage the world. (This could be the most ironic thing I ever said.) Here are a few tips that will make your next long-haul flight experience decidedly less terrible.

1. Go for a jog before the flight.

Although most of the time I never had, never suggests jogging before work flight is a great way to stave off the jitters. Just think about how long you'll be sitting. You'll want to sprint when you get off that plane.

I do not know about you, but I experienced horrible episodes of turbulence that always give me nightmares. To reduce the fear factor, try to sit near the wing. Because the aircraft are designed to rock like seesaws in turbulent conditions, you will experience less motion in the medium. You know ... the physics and stuff.

Try not to load up on carbohydrates if you become a bloated, monstrous version of yourself on plans as I do. Things like pasta are great for keeping hunger pangs at bay, but they will also cause your body to retain water. This is particularly serious if you do not follow this advice and do not stay sufficiently hydrated, which leads me to my next point.

Remember that comically large bottle of water you've taken in the terminal? Finish that and then ask the flight attendant (politely) to fill each time a food or beverage service rolls around. Staying hydrated might send you to the aircraft toilet more often as you like, but get through the long haul while you're running on fumes is not fun.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not exactly a talkative person. That said, a great conversation can eat up some serious time on long-haul flights. While coming home from U.K. once I gabbed away with the woman next to me for four hours. Obviously, you have to feel the situation. If you have a basic knowledge of body language, you will know if the person next to you is mood to talk.
