In 2012, the FDA agents raided a cheese factory in rural Pennsylvania. The factory belonged to Castle Cheese Inc. Thanks to a tip, officers had reason to believe that the company was contaminating its supposedly 100% real parmesan with substitutes at reduced rates.

their investigation revealed evidence that the castle was in fact make up their cheese. Parmesan their flagship brand, it is located, was filled with things like dough wood . In some cases, the "cheese" barely contained any cheese at all.
Unfortunately, this gross finding was not an isolated incident.

previous FDA Acts surveys show a clear trend of parmesan cheese suppliers cut their product with fillers. Common ingredients include cellulose made from wood pulp and cheddar cheese, which is much cheaper than Parmesan.
Cellulose is considered by the FDA as a food additive to strong levels around two to four percent. However, consumer brands parmesan cheese often contain levels around the mark of eight percent.

As expected, the cheese fraud in US grocery stores is not limited to a little Parmesan. Several independent investigations were found numerous cases of missing ingredients or mislabeled in all kinds of cheese.

I do not think anything will ever stop me from loving pizza, but after reading this I might start thinking twice about going into places $ 1 / slice cheap pizza. Something tells me they are not using high quality ingredients.
