You can paint on almost everything, and people do. You name it, someone has painted on it. Canvas, wood, stone faces - you can paint on it. But what about something a little less ... strong? Could you paint on, say, water?
If the paint on the water seems impossible, then just watch. A street artist shows us how you can actually paint on the water. The technique is similar to creating marbled paper, and has actually been used by artists and craftsmen for hundreds of years to get beautiful, swirling patterns and colors.
First, the surface is not here just water - it is mixed with a substance that makes it slightly thicker and more gelatinous. This helps paint the float and spread more slowly.
This is how you paint on the water, all accompanied by a very cold music:
paper marbling, sometimes called Ebru art (as in the video), is an ancient skill, but it never fails to amaze when watched in action.
