In 1961, archeologist Pesach Bar-Adon was search the Dead sea on the banks of Nahal Mishmar, a seasonal watercourse in Israel near the Dead sea. He did not find the rolls, but he stumbles upon something even more amazing.

He found what is now called the Nahal Mishmar Hoard - a collection of copper-age objects including statues, tools, weapons, crowns and scepters. In all, there are more than 400 items in the treasure of copper, bronze, ivory, and stone. Of the five crowns that were found, one of them really stood out.

The crown, which is decorated with vultures, is believed to have been used in ancient funeral ceremonies.

The hoard dates from between 4000 and 3500 BCE. It is believed that this reserve had a religious significance to civilization that left behind. Researchers do not have all the answers, but a collection like this says a lot about the people who lived in this area. Other treasure finds include a statue of a pregnant woman, and a statue of a ram. They are supposed to symbolize female and male deities, respectively.

A scepter as it has also been found, as well as countless other items. This model is a replica of the original, and it is exposed to the Hecht Museum in Haifa.

No one knows why the treasure was hidden so far from the temple. Theories suggest that it may have been an emergency of some kind, as an invasion or a natural disaster, which caused people to hide items for protection. We will never know the real story behind this cache of artifacts, but it makes it more interesting.
