These people are buried alive every night, but they choose to live That Way -

Imagine living in a place where you have to dig out of your house every morning.

This is part of daily life for people living in Shoyna, a small isolated village in northern Russia. The desert city is completely surrounded by sand dunes. Pair that with coastal winds, and there is no way for these people to stop their houses to be buried every night.

Shoyna used to be a thriving fishing port, but after overfishing in the White Sea has led to increasing trade fails, the sand dunes began to take over in the 1980s

Now, less than 300 people live there with few opportunities in how to work more digging homes and hunting geese.

They do not close their doors at night and do not even bother to sweep the sand out of their homes. Who can blame them?

Despite all the difficulties they face, they are proud of their small city and learned to live with the sand.

I salute the tireless efforts of these people, but I certainly would not be able to deal with that all day .

There is something troubling serious about someone's home to be buried on the roof every night. I really hope for them that sand is never more than that.
