The aurora is a phenomenon that people rarely get to see, and sometimes in some places. Or so you thought! There are many misconceptions about this beautiful phenomenon that people have spread for years, although they can not be true.

We will clear up some confusion about the aurora borealis we?

This is how the aurora happens.

Here's how the aurora borealis happens.

Aurora displays are created when protons and electrons flow from the solar surface and slam in the magnetic field of the Earth. The air in the atmosphere of the Earth is largely composed of nitrogen and oxygen, and when the charged particles of the morning hit of oxygen, green and red light is emitted. When they hit nitrogen atoms, they emit an orange and a red light.

Sometimes the aurora becomes slightly less north and move away from the poles. If there is a lot of solar activity happens, the northern lights are visible as far south south to Atlanta.

This is what auroras look like from space. The satellites took pictures from space showing what they look like outside the atmosphere and it is just as beautiful.

The cameras can see better.

Since auroras are actutally quite low, it is difficult for the human eye to pick up on them sometimes. A camera with a long exposure setting can capture exactly what is going better than us ever could.

They are always happening.

Although you can not always see the northern lights are always put on a show. It's just hard for people to see them during the summer months because of the large amount of pollution in the air. If you want to see the show, winter is really the best time.

Well, we all learned a bit today. Maybe next winter I'll take a trip to Canada or Alaska to see. Oh wait ... winter in Alaska. No thanks!
