An old favorite doomsday scenarios is that the magnetic poles of the Earth will realign themselves, causing destruction around the world and the end of humanity as we know it. While researchers say that part of the death and destruction of this theory is unlikely, they agree on is that the magnetic poles of the Earth are realign or ... at least that's what they hope.

A recent study by the European Space Agency that the magnetic fields of the Earth are actually weaken what some might consider an alarming rate.

A recent study from the European Space Agency found that Earth's magnetic fields are actually weakening at what some might consider an alarming rate.

New measures put the rate of field magnetic decrease approximately five percent annually, which is about 10 times faster than previous estimates. The decrease is not uniform. Some spots deteriorate more rapidly, while in other areas, the magnetic field is strengthened.

The researchers familiar with the magnetic field of the Earth are not worried, though. They say that these recent measures are evidence that the poles of the earth are preparing to return. The last time the poles of the Earth was switched during the Stone Age, so it is unclear what kind of impact would be flip about life in our modern era.

However, the consensus among researchers is that the switching of the poles will not cause much damage. The worst that will happen, they say, is that we have to relabel compasses.

so, I guess we have a 50/50 chance at the end of the world happens over the next few years. Again, I guess the chances are that way most of the time anyway.
