If you think that our oceans are full of horrible creatures and terrifying today, then you should build a time machine and check that the oceans held in prehistoric times. At this moment in history, the oceans were teeming with killing machines the scariest of all time.
While we might blanch at the thought of the great white sharks today, these creatures would have been less horrible in the squad at the time. Appointment of some of these ancient terrors, shall we?
1. Deinosuchus
Film Pilot
Although technically these monsters roam the oceans, I Deinosuchus included on this list because it was an absolutely crazy beast. This giant crocodile was so great that ate dinosaurs for breakfast. At 40 feet long, the Deinosuchus was almost as big as Tyrannosaurus. Imagine seeing a battle between the two.
2. Mosasaurus
Wikipedia
Would -you guess what modern creature, the Mosasaurus is most closely related? The Komodo dragon. This massive killing machine were actually two sets of jaws, and it was 60 feet long. For a demonstration of the deadliness of this beast, you can check a box in the last Jurassic Park film. You know it is when you see it.
3. anomalocaridid
Wikipedia
Even if they were on the small side compared to most creatures on this list, the anomalocaridid was a formidable predator. He was sitting on top of the ocean food chain for millions of years before other predators have evolved complex.
4. Jaekelopterus rhenaniae
Walking With Dinos
jaekelopterus was a sea scorpion of the most terrifying variety. In the beginning of life on Earth, these massive crustaceans trampled everything in their path. As they stood about nine feet high, this does not really come as a shock.
5. Xiphactinus
Darwin and Wallace
There are about 85 million years ago, the north American continent was divided into three large islands. Log all was a huge inland sea. It was in this sea that Xiphactinus reigned.
6. Edestus
Sea Monsters of the Past
the great white shark can not even hold a candle to the deadly wrath of the Edestus. This prehistoric shark was a killing machine. Modern estimates put its length at about 22 feet. Their sharp teeth that were sealed scary affair.
7. helicoprion
Reddit / Bluffz2
I know that shark looks like the product of a bad job Photoshop, but according to researchers, is how helicoprion actually looked. Freaky, right? Just be grateful you're not a poor fish that wandered too close to the jaw.
8. Dunkleosteus
Wikipedia
So many horrifying creatures sharp teeth had deep to make their submission, Dunkleosteus just had a huge dent. This beast has used her mouth like a guillotine when he was hunting.
9. Basilosaurus
Walking With Dinos
Although it has "saurus" in its name, Basilosaurus was not really a lizard. According to the researchers, the monster was actually a type of whale ... and it was huge. Estimates from fossil evidence put Basilosaurus length of about 60 feet. It probably snacked on massive sharks.

You know what? I think I'll cancel my plans to build a time machine. The world is scary enough in 2016, so I prefer to leave the past in the past.
