We have come a long way as a society to where we were in 1800. Politically, the social climate is very different & mdash; especially regarding the fact that women can vote and, as Secretary Clinton proves that we are talking about running for the highest office in America. Although there is still a long way to go, women have made incredible progress over the years despite being encountered obstacles at every turn.

To fully appreciate how far women have come in the face of adversity, we'll take a look at what is happening in this ridiculous book of etiquette of the 19th century. A guide entitled Moral Encyclopedia by Charles varle, hit the shelves in 1831. It details some decidedly misogynistic social rules that he thought all women must comply.

what is most alarming is that some of these ideas still exist in the cultural consciousness. Stop ladies say what to do, people! do not be that guy. He was clearly the worst.
