The animals are amazing ... and we're not just talking about how they are adorable without a touch of makeup or hairspray. Rather, we refer to the way they are listening to what is happening with the earth. More often than not, they take on the things we are not even aware of. They hear things we can not hear, smell things that we can not smell, and sense things we can not. Scientists have not pinned a concrete explanation for why they are able to detect natural disasters before we can, but there is much evidence that clearly shows that something tells them they need to flee.

How does this happen?
Some scientists believe that these animals are able to sense the P (primary) waves that shifting tectonic plates before sending waves S (seismic) that the real "quaking" occurs. These P waves are not noticeable to humans. Other scientists think there might be some sort of chemical released that animals can feel, or a change in the atmosphere. It really is a mystery.
It is not only dogs and earthquakes, however.

For example, birds have been known to flee en masse before tsunamis or hurricanes, in time to reach safe ground.
Elephants, too, declined to higher ground, especially before the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 04 (one of the worst natural disasters of human history).

Some even broke free of their chains to reach minute safety before the actual disaster flooded the earth.

They have a knack for catching panic them and their animal instincts surrounding kick, telling them that some something is just not right.

This is certainly something to learn from this: listen to our animal companions. If they seem nervous, do not completely reject! They are more in tune with what is happening around them than us, especially when we are caught up with work, happy hour, and go to the store on time.
While the verdict is still out on why this happens, we can not deny our practitioners animals and their fresh capacities.
