While the New York crime rate has dropped significantly in recent years, it did not always used to be this way. In fact, the violent history of the city dates back all the way to the 1700s with one of the most famous unsolved murders in the city, the case Gulielma Elmore Sands.
On the evening of December 22, 1799 Gulielma Sands left his room in a Greenwich Street boarding house to meet his love, Levi Weeks. Both planed to elope later that night. Unfortunately Sands never showed. 11 days later, his body was found strangled in a well Lispenard Meadow, now Spring Street in SoHo neighborhood of New York. On the site of the old well is now the clothing store fashion, COS.

However, in the COS basement you can see what remains of the well where the body of Sands was found there all these years.

After the death Sands, his beloved Weeks was the obvious suspect. He was arrested, tried and found not guilty. However the death of sand created a media game against weeks and it might as well have been guilty. After he was acquitted, he had to leave town, fearing for his life. In an even stranger twist, family Sands decided to view the body of their daughter outside her former boarding. They hoped to stimulate public speculation. The crime remains unsolved.

the remains of wells were completely forgotten until 1980. it was then the owner of the building excavated part of the earth filled basement and accidentally discovered the old well.

Before moved COS the building housed a restaurant. The staff of the restaurant used to report all kinds of strange activities near the remains of the well. Maybe COS will become a haunted first clothing store in the world?

It's pretty weird for there to be a 0 years old and in the basement of a store of high-end clothing. But I guess it's one of those things you should expect from New York.
